Pier 39 | Permalink

I've been looking to visit this sanctuary of Sea lions where they are barking, sun bathing and act just like in wild. The first wild sea lion came to this pier in 1989 after the Loma Pierta earthquake, and starting arrived in bunch and taking over this pier in January 1990. Now this pier is protected as sanctuary for Sea Lions, I could spent hours just watching them. Location in Pier 39, San Francisco.

This is fascinating, never imagined you would find sea lions in SF.

Glad you got to see these. We used to sail in San Francisco Bay and would see sea lions on buoys, and I think I used to see a few around Fisherman's Warf in the 80s. But, this is amazing! To be able to see so many so close. I've only seen big herds like this at Ano Nuevo state beach (also a reserve) and Sea Lion Caves in Oregon. Great shot! Hope you enjoyed every minute of your vacation. Thanks for taking us along.
